Evaluation finished!

I have finished all the questions which where asked for my evaluation. I have managed to reach the deadline and i am very happy about that. Throughout my music magazine task i have managed to meet the deadline for each piece of work i had to do, so this shows my time management skills.

Contents - small changes

 

Evaluation

I have started on my first question of the evaluation. I believe up to now i am using my time effectively, however to get this evaluation finished by the dealine i will need to pick up the pace a little.

My deadline for my evaluation is friday 15th April so i need to get on with doing each of the 7 questions on a seperate powerpoint document to sat it out more conveniantly.

Article - Finished - Small changes to detail

I forgot the page numbers so i added them in keeping with the same house style as throughout my magazine. Also i made them to a conveniant size and i had to refer back to my contents page to get the correct page numbers. Also the last column on the page was a little too far to the left right next to the column next to it so i moved it across a bit to make it look better and easier for the audience to read it.

Photo shoot cancelled

My last minute photo shoot had been cancelled today due to one of the band members not being able to make it. Since the image with all 3 of the band members in it needed to be changed there was no point in continuing with the shoot so i cancelled it.

Thoughts!

I am very happy how my double page spread article has turned out. However, the dominant image is bugging me a bit as the band feet are cut off the bottom so tomorrow i have organised a photo shoot with the band, so if i take a better image i will then edit my article to replace the present image.

Article deadline

As the deadline for my double page spread article is tomorrow (18th March) i feel i am ready for it to be finished on the deadline. I am confident that my article looks as good as any other music magazine article and using the devices effectively i have managed to create an article of satisfactory.

- Finish off writing my question and answers onto the article pages.
- Making small adjustments and and little detail to layout to give it the 'wow' factor.

This is my article double page spread updated. I have added my manipulated images and boardered them with pink to fit my housestyle. I believe the images fit perfectly.

As i have written my questions out, i am now writing the answers to them, once i have written an answer in for all of them i will go back and make sure i have added personality in which is key to good article.

I have manipulated the background to plain white as the previous background didn't look as good. Also i have neated up her hair.

Shot list

For my article i have 2 images left to add onto the page so i want 2 different images. I have already got a long shot of the group of them. So i now want an image of Lyndon and Rachel because they are both instrument players then i want an image of Beth who is the singer. I think it would look good if i had a shot with an odd angle and maybe just a close up shot. But i will look through my images and pick out the best ones.

Article - layout

This is my layout oh my article. The pink squares on the right side of the page are for images. As you can see the squares vary in size as i want a variety of sizes and angles of images to be included in my article. the pink text is where my text is going to be. As you can see i am following the rule of third with my text as a layout for the readers pleasure.

Blog Background

I have changed the background of my blog to a fun stripes of pink. I changed it to this as i thought it would best resemble the pop, fun aspect of my music magazine. I think this small detail will give the viewer of my blog an idea of what genre my music magazine is!

Article deadline

As the deadline for my music magazine article is in a week today (18th March) i really need to get on with writing out my interview questions and answers. I still need 2 more images to be included in my article but the images i have are at school therefore i may or may not have the images. I will check if i have the right images on monday so if i don't have the right images i can arrange another photo shoot before the article deadline. However if i can't arrange the photo shoot before the deadline i will use template images from my collection so i still have a finished product and i will add the better images in later; possibly the following monday.

Article - update - Like or Dislike?

I have added a brief description on what the interview is about, i have used language in the text to relate to the audience so it will appeal more to them and they'll know what the rest of the interview is like. I used a pink background for this piece of text to add colour onto the article page. I used this colour and this shade of colour pink because it again links to the colours i choose for the front cover, so you can tell this article belongs in Pulse magazine from the house style following throughout the magazine. 

The red borders i have added link them all together, however it does look like i have seperated them into 3 sections so i will keep playing with different kinds of layouts and find the best one.

These questions dig deep into the lives of the band 'Hollywood' therefore the audience would be more interested to read on. The questions here are in order in which i would like to keep for the double page spread. However if i think of any more questions to ask them i may need to change the order.

I have added a heading to explain what the article is about. I have used it as a quote so that it represents the Hollywood band saying it. I think it sounds good and the rest of the article can be based around that. I will try to think of more ideas and change it if i find something better. But in the mean time i think this header is very good and eye catching.

Article - Update - Changing the image!

Here is the dominant image of the article however from the last post i have change the background of the title for the the band 'Hollywood'. I changed the background for that to be red and it links in with the border so looks effective. I like this idea change and will get other peoples views berfore i make my desision.

Article - update

This is the first part of creating my article. The article is about the band 'Hollywood' therefore i have put an image of the band at the dominant image. It is boardered with red to make it stand out and to fit into the housestyle. Also i wanted to put the name of the band on the image and tried various places on the image, however it didn't look right wherever i put it. I then saw a space down the side of the image which was empty so to fill it i decided to make the image look interesting by turning the title round to verticle. I think the way of the image looks great and very interesting now i have added the band name down the side. In the image i don't like that the feet are missing so i may need to organise another photoshoot so i can get the full length of them all.

This is my color coding in the rule of 3. I believe this guide of the 'rule of 3' will help me to design a great layout for my article It has already help me to make my images slightly bigger to fill the sections. On the first page i decided to put the main image in the top 6 sections of the page to make it stand out and to dominate the page. I'm going to put the band name in the top left 2 sections in top of the image to link them together. The heading is also over lapping the image at the bottom maybe as a quote. The text at the bottom 3 sections finish off the page.

To complete my article i need to:
- Make questions up which for an interview which relate to pop genre
- Set a layout for text and images
- Choose relevant images - around 3 images using various angles, framing and distances for interest (possible photo shoot)
- Make up answers to the questions using pop artist language such as slang to relate to the audience (keep in mind what the reader wants to know)
- Make sure the colour scheme fits the magazines housestyle
- In the text i need to use various fonts, sizes, colours and punctuation (!) to keep it looking interesting for the audience

Over the next few weeks i will keep referring back to this list to check i have done everything i can think of to make the article look great!

Next... Article

Now my contents page is completed the next step is to get on with the article which is to be set over a double page spread and i have until the 18th March 2011 to have the article completed.

As we are now in half term and off sixth form for a week i will use my time effectively to have everything i need ready for when i go back so i can get straight on with creating my article.

I have decided my article is going to be an interview either on Rachel Thompson (featured on the front cover) or Hollywood (the band featured on the contents page). To make my decision i will ask the audience in which they find better and take that into consideration...

As i don't want to waste time i will get started on some questions to fit both Rachel and Hollywood.

Contents page analysis - Top

On the top of the page i have put the name of the magazine which is visible but not over exagurated as it isn't totaly relevant. Also i have put the title of the page *contents* on the top so it stands out and to do this i used a large text and put a pink background behind it which is in the color scheme and looks great. Also on the pink background i put the date on which it is released with a red background so it doesn't link with the word contents and has its own area to make it stand out slightly.

Contents page analysis - Voucher!

The voucher looks great on the contents page as it stands out and looks attractive. It is also promoting the magazine onto the internet, so it may get more publicity. I thought of putting a voucher onto my contents page after analysing existing magazine contents page which there i found a voucher, i thought it looked great on that page and made a possitive impact on the magazine. The voucher has all the information a respondant may need to activate the discount with the web address and the code they enter to get the discount when subscribing.

Deadline

As the deadline is tomorrow, i will need to do the finishing touches to my work. I am happy with the deadline as i am currently up to date and my contents page is just about complete. I have looked at the criteria and will add some changes to make my contents page match a high grade as that is what i trying to aim for.

Contents page analysis - Contents

I have ordered the contents in 3 sections including, on the cover, reviews and features. This would make it easier for the reader to navigate their way through the magazine. I have highlighted the key articles wth using images such as Hollywood, Bethany Tweddell, Lyndon Jackets and Ellie Little to make their article stand out. At the bottom of the page i have highlighted some interesting articles which are on the contents list which i have added more text to the article to make it seem more interesting. I have made sure the page numbers are highlighted and put in the appropriate places to make it is easier to navigate their way through the magazine. Also by adding exclamation marks i have made it more appealing to the target audience.

Contents page analysis - Images

This is the original image which is one the contents page. I decided i wanted to change the back ground to plain so i minipulated it on photoshop.

This is the image minipulated into a white background which i was ging to use, however i then decided it may look better if i framed it with a color which matches the color scheme of my housestyle.

This one shows the final image, of what i have editted into framing it with the color red which is in the color scheme. This does show how i control the image to make it my own of what i want.

 As from the first 3 images i used the same editing technique to minipulate the background to pick which is also the same color in which is in the color scheme. This shows my control over the images.

Also this image had been edited in the same 3 stages in which i have minipulated the background to red in a controled way.

The 3 images which i have used in the contents page have a background of red and pink, i choose 2 red and 1 pick so i use the colors in the color scheme just using the images.

 This is the original image for my main article. I decided i wanted this image to be a plain white background so it is different from the other images on the page. I used photoshop to minipulate the image to the image below.

Last minute minipulation

Now my contents page is pretty much finished i am concentrating on making sure it fits the target audience (teenagers to young adults) by using certain slang words, exagurated puncuation, colors, font sizes and images. I will upload my contents page with the added minipulations.

Photo shoot idea!

I may need to organise another possible photoshoot because of the people in the images.
As i have the 'Hollywood' band including 3 members and underneath that image is 3 more images of the same people but playing different charcters. As all of the images are of the same 3 people the audience may get a bit confused and i want my contents page to be as good as possible. The image i would change is the one of the 'Hollywood' band to some other people. That image is a unusual angle and i would like to keep the variety of angles so if i do another photoshoot with different band mambers then i would use a variety of angles to chose from to keep the creativity of my magazine.

I have included more color to some words and used bold to make important words and features stand out. This is very near to my final contents page piece, and overall i think it has kept to the housestyle i chose and looks attractive therefore i am very happy with this piece. The deadline is on Friday 18th February 2011 and i think i am up to date with everything at the moment.

I had spare room at the bottom so i added an Editers letter which i included the most intreging articles.

Front cover edited

This is the Front cover of my music magazine with an added subscription offer. I thought since i have put the subscription on the contents page, i will advertise it on the front cover to get the magazine more attention. The colors i choose do not fit the color scheme of the front cover, however these are the same colors i used on the contents page for the subscription voucher, also using slightly different colors to the color scheme draws attention to that particular part, the subscription offer. I decided to use an arrow as the background as this is to point to the next page (contents page) so the audience will understand where to get more details from about the offer.

I have moved the voucher down a little so it is in line with the text below, which i have changed the font size of a little. The Headings are still 20pt, the page numbers are still 18 bold, the page title have changed from size 16pt to 14pt and the page heading has changed from size 14pt to 12 pt. I think this is better as it doesnt take up too much room and is still readable.

Mrs Aldridge's advice - Researching, Planning and Composing the Article

Hello folks.  I have some important and useful information for you regarding your article double page spread.  Please read, blog and conduct research and planning as appropriate.  Thanks.

• First of all, your article has to be over two pages.  No more, no less.  Don't forget that the two pages need to work together as one. 
• You need to be aware that there are a range of different types of article.  The type of article you choose will then have an impact of style of language, layout and tone.
• You could write an interview, review (of album, single, music DVD or live gig), or a report - which is very much like investigative journalism.
• Research how the different type of article influences style, tone, language and layout.
• Plan the different possibilities available to you.
• Do NOT forget that you get marked on how you use language, tone and register to address, target and appeal to your audience.
• In your evaluation, you will have to comment on what representations of certain people you have created.  I imagine that to answer this, you will mainly be consulting your article.

I have made the voucher brighter with a bright border, i have made the voucher inside of the voucher color scheme with the yellow font color running as a border. When editing my front cover i will use the voucher color scheme to make the particular advertisment stand out.

This is the voucher i designed, i wanted it to stand out so i used different colors to the color scheme. The most relevant and eye catching information is in the brightest color (yellow) and bigger font size.

I think i should advertise the voucher idea on the front cover as the front cover is the most viewed when on the shelf so the audience is more tempted to have a look and possibly purchase.

Voucher idea

From existing magazines i have gathered information that they sometimes use vouchers on the contents page. I would like to include a voucher to attract more attention and potential customers. I am now trying out voucher ideas, using different colours from the color scheme to make it stand out and using text to make it more intreging. I have decided the voucher is going to be for the Pulse website for it to be a discount for the sign up.

I may need to organise another photoshoot so i can get a variety of people instead of the same ones to be solos and bands.

Contents updated - Going well!

This is my contents page updated with the varied font sizes and bolds etc. I think this will look good however once i get everything onto the contents page i might have to make some changes. But up to now it has gone very well.

I think i have too many stories for the contents page however im happy that my magazine is over 200 pages. I will try to keep all of the text by varying the font size but if i have to delete some stories then i will delete the ones which are not featured on the front cover.

Band name

These are the band i am puting on the contents page as the main image. I now need a name for this band so i am thinking and collecting other peoples ideas too.

I am now analysing contents pages of popular music magazine such as Q, Vibe and NME. I choose to use these magazines as they are very popular and well known therefore my magazine would have to compete with these magazine so i am analysing and decideding how could i make my contents page stand out and better than the others

Next step

Now i have completed my music magazine front cover, i am concentrating on creating a contents page. I am going to consider the style, the style of the contents page and pages throughout the magazine must link with the front cover to make it look well put together.
This deadline for the article to be completed is 18th Febuary 2011 so i better get on...

I am now piecing together the front cover of my music magazine now i have the images.

Photo shoot outcome

These images are some examples of useable images which i took.

This is a group image which all the models look really good together. However the bottom of the image is cut off so i would have to concider.

This image is one of my favorites, therefore i will be seriously concidering using this as a dominant image for my front cover.

This image is another one of my favorites, therfore i shall also be seriously considering this for the dominant image of the front cover.

I have decided that this image may be used as an insert as it looks good as a mid shot with it including props.

I like this image as it is different with a head flick, however for my magazine i don't think it would be appropriate.

I am considering using this image as an insert as it is playful and rocky. The messy hair looks querky along with the playing with the prop micro phone.

This image is very different, i like it very much and would consider this image for the magazine however not sure if it is for the front cover.

This image is at a different angle and looks good however considering other images i prefer them to this.

All the models look good in this image and it is at a different angle from a birds eye view, it would be interesting to use and therefore considering.

I like the aspect of querkyness in this image with the model on the floor including part of a prop for interest. The model looks good from this high angle shot therefore again considering this image for the magazine.
